Steps to reduce risks in the construction supply chain
At Lockmetal, we’re extremely proud of our ‘Run-to-time’ service. We’re able to provide such a service because our effective and well-proven supply chain ensures that clients receive both standard and bespoke products, on time and at the right price.
With that in mind, here are a few steps that can be taken, and that Lockmetal take to reduce risks.
Have an updated contingency plan
Unexpected issues or supply chain emergencies can be extremely disruptive and can cause major problems for any project. But you can mitigate this by having a contingency plan in place to deal with any issues. Keep it updated so you’re always prepared.
Lockmetal ensure our own supply chain is robust by ensuring we are never dependant on only one supplier. We have a program to ensure we know what is going on in the market and who has capacity.
In fact this is one of our key strengths – we are not constrained by the capability of our own, or any other production facility and we are able to respond flexibly to the needs of our customer.
Manage supplier and subcontractor stability
It’s always a good idea to check up on your suppliers and any subcontractors. If they fail to deliver, how will that affect your business? Do you have a backup in case?
Lockmetal plan ahead and keep closely in touch with our key supply chain members, sharing our plans to ensure each stakeholder is able to deliver. We maintain and review the performance and financial stability of all our suppliers.
Optimise workplace safety measures
Prevention is always better than cure and this has never been more true with regards to health and safety. By optimising workplace safety measures you minimise the risk of accidents that can disrupt the flow of work.
The directors of Lockmetal believe in preventative H&S policy as a fundamental business strategy, our visiting Project Manager is responsible for auditing this whilst on site and we also use an independent advisor where appropriate. We collaborate with our customers to ensure we are always striving towards and achieving best practice.
Encourage better communication
Regular, friendly and honest communication is the key to a successful project and can reduce any risks in the construction supply chain. Schedule team meetings where feedback can be given at every stage of the project.
Lockmetal follow their Run-to-Time system, essentially we understand that nothing happens until people communicate and good project management demands excellent communication. We have a cadence of meetings and review points by which we hold ourselves accountable and ensure this actually happens.
